Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol
Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alchohol (CMCA) is a community-based program that works to improve local substance abuse policies and enforcement. Program partners include law enforcement, community members, retailers, municipalities, and young people.

W e have had four of our local municipalities pass "Resolutions on Underage Drinking" and four local police departments have passed new law enforcement policies to address underage drinking based on a model created by the Maine Attorney General's Office, community coalitions, the Maine Association of Prevention Programs, and young people. The policy was endorsed by the Maine Chief's Association.

This program also works with school districts to adopt best practice substance abuse policies that focus more on assessment, treatment, and all extra curricular activities. This also encourages in-house suspensions and community service. The Waterville Public Schools adopted such a policy in February of 2006.

We also work with local retailers and bar owners on ID checks, server trainings, access and enforcement strategies.  Many of these retailer initiatives are tied into the statewide CardME program.
